Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Serving and assisting customers in store, keeping stock tidy and replenished, safely putting stock away on delivery days, maintaining the area of store I work in, answering any questions from customers as well as gaining product knowledge to assist my ability to help. Helping colleagues on other departments as and when required.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I am enjoying my programme but as the store I work in is really short on staff I am finding it difficult to get time off the shop floor to study, as most times there I only one staff member on the department. It is also difficult for me to study at home because of the area I live in is very noisy so concentration is difficult.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I feel I have learnt many new skills and also advanced the knowledge I already had, I am dealing with products that I have not used before and like to spend time researching them. Also products that I have used over the years have evolved and improved so I am able to add to my knowledge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well organised and if I had more time available to me would be really satisfying but as I have severe time constraints it is making the task more difficult. I find the programme is suited to me and I am ble to adapt at times t fit in the work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
Initially the support was great but as time has gone on it has become increasingly difficult to get any work done, as the pressure of actually doing my job has increased. With very little chance to leave the shop floor to study I am falling behind and will have to use my own time to catch up.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I really cannot fault my training provider, they have been there for me and done as much as possible to allow me to study. There is support when I need it and getting this support is easy to do. The online availablity is great and easy to use anytime I want.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has certainly helped me to advance my ability to assist the customer by giving an insight into all the reasons why and how people shop. My product knowledge has increased and this has enabled me to get better at helping. I have gained an insight into how the company works and why they do things as they do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are not really any out of store activities but there are online chat pages where you can engage with staff from other stores and even though these are mainly work related you do gain glimpses into other people's lifestyles. As a store there are groups of us who meet up outside work but this is our own initiative.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I personally find B&Q a great place to work, I enjoy my job most of the time, as of late it has become quite difficult to settle as there is staff shortages and so there are more time constraints, I really do enjoy my actual job, so I would recommend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
Be prepared to work hard, don't be afraid to ask for help if needed, if you have any specialist knowledge be sure to inform and make use of it. The existing staff are approachable and friendly it will just take time to fit in but above all be yourself.
