My current role at Troup Bywaters + Anders has allowed me to bring effective yet innovative content ideas to fruition. Crafting engaging copy for social media, designing eye-catching and modern graphics through Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, managing email marketing campaigns via Mailchimp, delivering in-house social media engagement training to staff, building landing pages for key calendar events and initiatives, all whilst working towards achieving a first-class honours Digital Marketing Degree!

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My apprenticeship has given me a fantastic insight into not only the world of digital marketing, but the wider business economy and strategy as well. This has really helped to underpin my learning and see how marketing can work in harmony with other business functions such as HR, accounts etc. to achieve a common goal.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Upon joining the business, we are assigned a dedicated training mentor and are continuously encouraged to develop our knowledge and skills further, whether this be through in-house CPDs, workshops, or external accredited courses. In 2021, I had the opportunity to undertake the CIM's Principles of Copywriting course and more recently, I completed InDesign and Photoshop training to enhance and improve my graphic design skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship was structured using a day release format where I was able to spend a day a week on site at University to learn and attend my lectures / seminars. I really enjoyed this style of learning as it enabled me to get a taste of the University experience being onsite and meeting other like-minded apprentices / students whilst providing me with the practical experience also.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I cannot fault the support provided by my employer throughout my apprenticeship, particularly during the EPA process. It became considerably difficult to manage work commitments with study and my line manager was extremely accommodating, offering support and a helping hand whenever I needed. Regular catch ups and check-ins were scheduled to not only make sure that I was coping with the workload, but so that my mental health wasn't suffering in the process as well.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I could not have gotten through my apprenticeship without the help of [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], my course director. After every trimester, progress reviews were scheduled to provide all parties involved with the opportunity to feedback on the quality of the delivery and training and air any general concerns. This was extremely helpful, particularly if I felt as though I was falling behind or needed clarity on any assignments etc.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It is one thing to be able to understand and learn about the concepts of digital marketing, however to apply it in a practical environment and today's context is invaluable. Through the help of my apprenticeship, I am more knowledgeable, skilled and able to regularly input and offer up ideas into meetings / campaigns. My employer also finds it extremely helpful since the content I am learning about is relevant to today's market and environment.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is always something to get involved in at TB+A! Whether that be after work socials, professional networking events, awards ceremonies, charitable initiatives and so many more. Every year, we also take part in Mental Health Awareness and Sustainability Week, where we run a programme of themed activities, challenges and events e.g. yoga, volunteering, quizzes, local bake-off competitions and more!

Be yourself. Have fun. Take risks. Say yes to every opportunity. Engage. Listen. Learn from the people around you and work hard! Yes, it can be daunting starting a new role or apprenticeship, particularly if this is your first ever big office job, but it can also open so many doors and opportunities for you if you have the right attitude and are willing to apply yourself! You won't regret it :)
