Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I lead and manage a team of 6 research nurses and practitioners. My role is very managerial. I lead and coordinate studies and actively set up studies. I liaise with commercial studies to take these studies on board, which secures extra funding for my team. We are lead on non-commercial studies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the programme, it is a lot of work to complete, however I am learning and have found ways to improve my time. I have gained valuable skills, which I hope I remember to utilise this going forward. Alot of the work is self directed, so I can complete this in my own time

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have been leading a team for 3 years and i have grown in confidence to lead them. I am undertaking leadership courses which will help me to develop and learn more skills. I am aware of the coaching style, giving feedback using the SBI model and Daniel Goleman's theory of emotional inteliigence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme was a little confusing to begin with. I did not receive the induction pack, however I had more of an understanding when I met my tutor and she explained it the process. There is a lot to learn in terms of the structure of the course and how much time needs to be dedicated to it, but I am learning as I go on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My manager was very encouraging for me to sign up to the course and she fills in the feedback questionnaires very quickly. she catches up with me during my 1:1. she has since left and my new manager will be starting in April, so hopefully I will receive enough support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Not too much support received, I believe if I need extra support they will hopefully help me towards this. I have not yet experienced this yet as I have achieved all the deadlines. A regular catch up with the tutor would be nice, just to touch base on how it is going so far. My meetings are all really based on the professional discussions
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has made me more self aware and aware of emotional intelligence which is the topics that I have covered. It will make me more aware of my behaviours and my team's behaviours. I should be able to gain the skills to effectively lead my team and think of the benefits on the wider team
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
there are professional networking events in research I occasionally attend. the trust do promote well being activities such as meditation and exercise. There are also quiz and little events that are hosted. I am not aware of sports activities, but they have a gym and a swimming pool, which has a discount

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I like that it is very research active and there is more chance to learn and progress within my field. I like how they promote well being, such as there is counselling on site. I like my team and the support given within my team. There are things to improve on, such as the facilities
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
It depends on the department, but I have had a good experience. I didnt enjoy working in the clinical area, and felt under supported, however I now work in research and I am fully supported and enjoy my role. Speak to your department before applying for the role to get an idea on how they run
