Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work on the GUI of screens and we use industry software tools as well as some programming languages to deliver the lovely clusters that you see on our cars.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It's been splendid so far. I feel like I have all the support I need and can excel in my role and university because of all the measures that Jaguar Land Rover and Warwick University have taken to ensure our experience from day 1 is good. I have never felt bored since I joined there's always something ongoing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, my programming skills, version control of work, CI/CD in gitlab and also using the Industry software tools that we use.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Really well planned and thought out. In the past before I joined I heard of some issues but those are all resolved and the balance is really good. I haven't felt overwhelmed yet due to the structure and there are plenty of learning opportunities at university as well as work.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel like I have a whole chorus of people around me supporting me and ensuring my experience is smooth. We get and apprentice buddy at work as well as 1 and in some cases 2 mentors to support with our university meetings as well as accreditations such as IENG.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Warwick University has some very talented and experience staff (as you would expect) who know what they are talking about and have structured the course such that we find our apprenticeship smooth and can also pick up some other third-party qualifications along the way (these could be from Scrum.org or PMI or other bodies).

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has been well thought out and planned with my workplace so most modules are useful as soon as they are done being taught.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, go karting, skiing, trekking, running and the list goes on and on!

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?

Yes

Why?

It's an absolutely fantastic firm. They want us to grow and reach new heights. We are taught modules about management and also get £200 a year to spend on a course of our liking and that speaks volumes. It feels like they are investing in us rather than exploiting us.
