Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I look over code to understand what processes it carries out. I do shadowing to grasp a greater understanding into tasks I will be doing. I check I have access to databases in order for me to manipulate it if required. I do CM migrations of code to different environments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme due to many qualities:
- I always have support from my team if I am struggling with a piece of work or even if I just need a chat.
- The skills I have obtained after being on the programme for just a couple months is phenomenal- I have been able to do tasks I never would’ve been able to previously. This is due to the immense amount of effort Capgemini provides in teaching facilities for their employees (ALE and other courses). I can gain the skills I want as Capgemini encourages it.
- I always have support from my team if I am struggling with a piece of work or even if I just need a chat.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a wealth of new skills, some which involve reading scripts (understanding shell scripting) which is something I have never done before. I have learnt how to migrate code to different environments as well as learn about those environments (development, test, clone and live environments). Due to being put on the ALE course at Aston University by Capgemini, I have gained new skills of being able to write in Java and SQL which I am very proud of.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured to a good extent- I am able to focus on my job as well as get university work done. I am happy university work is set in module blocks- this enables me to organise my time efficiently by being able to book on-campus days and annual leave in advance. It also enables me to inform my team in advance when I will need someone to take over my work in my absence.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a wealth of support from my employer. Whether it is about understanding work I may be struggling with, or just wanting to try something new I am fully supported. I feel I have a sense of trust with my employer if I ever do need to talk to them about something that’s personal to me- I have a friendship as well as professional relationship with them which is very valuable to me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have a skills coach from my training provider who I can connect with on anything- whether it is regarding work or just everyday chats. She listens to me which makes me feel heard and that I can talk to her about whether I have any concerns or problems. This makes me feel supported and comfortable with my training provider. I can talk to them about any objectives I want to reach or any advice they can give me on how to reach them. She gives me a very good insight on how to reach my goals and achieve those qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

They listen to any concerns I have then feed me back advice on how to overcome them and the steps I can take to achieve my goals. I have a very in depth talk with them on anything and they always have a solution to accelerate me further to achieving my goals in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are always volunteering opportunities (e.g. going to schools to inform young people on apprenticeships at Capgemini), social events (e.g. Christmas parties) and many other opportunities to network and have a break from work which is very beneficial to my mental wellbeing and skills outside my role. I have chosen to take part in the 10K steps a day challenge to raise money for the Princes Trust that Capgemini have delivered on.

Why?
Amazing support straight from the start by colleagues I have been working with. Loads of opportunities to learn and develop skills and knowledge on. Loads of event opportunities to take part in to have that healthy work- life balance as Capgemini cares about their employees. Room for growth and development in Capgemini.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
Be prepared to face a wealth of new opportunities and be open to them. Whether they are regarding applying to the tons of courses available to expand your knowledge, or the variety of events you can be a part of or even start. Be open to getting to network with new people.
