Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was assigned to help an engineer set up a research project that we were able to take from the concept stage at the beginning of my placement through to the testing stage at the end of my placement. On a daily basis I would be working on getting the necessary pieces manufactured and communicating with other departments to make sure the project proceeded on time
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
During my time at MBDA I was given a lot of responsibility as this meant we were able to progress the research task quicker as I was able to carry out tasks simultaneously to the leader of the project.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I developed my problem solving skill as we only had a small budget so we had to think of cheap solutions to problems that arose. I also improved my communication skill as the role required me to talk to many different areas of the business

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
If ever I wasn’t sure about how to proceed on a specific task the team around were always willing to help and guide me to the solution. The team were always happy to have a meeting with me to discuss any questions I had on a specific topic or about MBDA in general.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
MBDA has a very friendly environment and you are always encouraged to speak to team members from different areas of the business to improve your understanding of the company as a whole. The buddy system they have implemented for new starters is another way in which MBDA encourage to speak to members outside of your team.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my time at MBDA as there were many things I was able to be involved in even in such a short space of time. I was also able to explore different career roles within the company which was very beneficial to the progression of my career.

What advice would you give to others applying to MBDA
I would advise someone applying to the role to not worry about the grades they have as it’s not all they look at. I would also advise to apply for a role they think they’ll enjoy but not to worry if they don’t get the role they want as there is lots of opportunity to move around the departments within the company.
