Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am the assistant manager of a busy tool hire branch. My role involves serving, servicing, delivering and managing the department. I work hard to keep my colleagues and our customers safe. I enjoy the different aspects of my role. I find that I learn something new each day and I feel I am well suited to the role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
At times it was hard to find time for the programme. My job is very reactive and when things need to be done, they need to be done there and then. The LEAP team provided a lot of support. They were always on hand when I messaged or emailed them.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since starting the job. I have learnt numerous new skills. I use them each and every day to complete tasks and serve customers. The apprenticeship has shown me how detailed the role is. In order to stay on top of so many different aspects of the business I need to refer to the many different skills I have learnt.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well structured. Each section contains plenty of detail. Different sections play to different peoples strengths. This ensures that you keep focused on the overall skills you are learning whilst still pushing you to learn more. I'd challenge anybody who said they didn't learn anything.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Honestly, my old branch manager didn't offer any support. He was more concerned with the day to day running of the branch. During my apprenticeship I changed branches. My new manager was completely different. He gave me support and encouragement when needed. He understood that it was in his in best interests to have a well trained team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There was plenty of support available. I found it hard to dedicate as much time as it needed just due to being in a busy branch. Had I had the time available I would have been able to better use the resources. I'm sure the information is very through.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have learnt so much during my apprenticeship. It has added to my knowledge base in all areas. There were areas I did struggle with before the apprenticeship however i am much more confident in said areas now. There were some areas that I didn't even realise I needed to know.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Travis Perkins has a large social aspect. There are many groups and activities throughout the group. We have colleague lotteries each month, fundraisers a few times each year and a whole discount website which covers a huge variety of vouchers and days out. Travis Perkins work hard to include everyone. They are proactive about everybody's work life balance.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Travis Perkins plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I most certainly would. I've enjoyed my time within the group. I've moved around within the group a few times. I have received training and help at every juncture. I love the big group job protection but I appreciate the small teams in each location. Get a job with Travis Perkins, you'll love it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
I would say be open to all that the group can do for you. There are so many more options than you would ever really know about. Leave yourself open to experience the full gamut of opportunity. Sometimes you have to take a bit of a leap of faith to reap the rewards.
