Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in the yard unloading deliveries that come in and ensuring the vehicles arrive safely to the loading bay. I also load wagons and our vehicles. I help customers with their purchases and help them to load their vehicles if they need it. I drive a forklift truck daily.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed my programme it helped me a lot settle into my new role and my tutor was very helpful and couldn't do enough for me. I felt the webinars where enjoyable and well put together, I think it would have been nice to meet face to face though.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt a lot of new skills and product knowledge. I came from a completely different job role before I started at Travis Perkins and the apprenticeship really helped me to learn new skills. I can now also drive a forklift which really helps me in my day to day role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

the programme is really well organised and easy to follow. If I did have any questions my tutor would be more than happy to help me. The webinars where planned well i advance and were put straight onto my calendar so I could easily plan for them to make sure I was able to attend.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

my Employer supported me well through my apprenticeship programme. Any thing I needed to help me complete my modules they helped me achieve this. We are quite a busy yard so some times having the time to put aside for my work was hard but my employer would always try there best.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider was very supportive and any queries or questions I had were dealt with and this helped me to complete my modules that I was struggling on. My provider was easily contactable and always responded in a timely manner, sometimes straight away through the chat which was very uselful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification helps me to have a much better product knowledge, as someone new to the business this was very important to me. Having a better product knowledge then makes me be more confident when helping customers and advising them on the products they wanted to purchase. It also made me see what was expected of me in my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We don't have any sports teams as we are only a small team and some colleagues aren't interested in any sport. We do have some nights out to socialise with each other and a Christmas party. Some of our team go to watch Hull City together when they play.

Travis Perkins is a good place to work as they help if you want to progress within the business. for example with the apprenticeships which they actively encourage you to do if you are interested in them. In our branch we have a family feel which is good in a work place.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
Research about the company and the role you are applying for so you are aware what you will be doing in your day to day role. Show in your interview that you have researched the company as this impresses the interviewer. If you are wanting to work for a company that will help you progress or if you just want to have extra training as well as your day to day role this will be a great place to aplly.
