Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in a Process Analytics lab. Mainly using Chromatography and sometimes Spectroscopic techniques to test and develop methods to be used to test for Purity, Assay, Content uniformity, etc. My week is split roughly 50/50 between practical lab work and analysing and processing the data from the instruments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme thoroughly and due to the constantly changing work I feel like am always learning new skills and developing. University is less enjoyable at the moment due to my long commute time and the fact that we are re-covering stuff from A-level. However, this will soon change.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my basic lab skills such as using balances, volumetrics, correct lab safety and conduct. As well as this, I have learnt a great deal more about Chromatography (especially liquid Chromatography) and how many different factors the retention rates. I have also become more confident using different softwares.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured and loads of help is available from Cogent, Pfizer, and Greewich Uni. I feel confident in how I will progress throughout the 5 years. However, there is a disconnect between Work and Uni as some lecturers don't account for us being at work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive any support that I need quickly and efficiently. I also feel like I am able to access this help at any reasonable time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The Uni provides plenty of support functions although there seems to be less flexibility in when and where you can get this help. Which for a part time student is a little bit awkward.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that currently my qualification has very little impact in my job role. However, as I progress, I can see how some of the knowledge and skills I gain from the later years through the qualification will become very relevant to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a few extra-curricular activities at my work. Such as Pool tournaments and baking competitions. The departments also organise group lunches at a local restaurant. Overall, I would say that there are not too many regular events however the workplace is very sociable, and many spontaneous events are organised

Why?
I feel that this course is an exceptional opportunity and a great alternative to a standard University experience of a full-time student doing a degree. Although there is a lot of work to be done, you receive masses of on-the-job experience which in this day and age is invaluable.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer?
Apply for several courses and make sure you dedicate plenty of time towards the application forms and interviews as these courses are very competitive to get onto.
