Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The role involved (for me specifically) working in the start-up management program and supporting them with several tasks that they were handling at the time of the placement. This included the designing and distributing the monthly start-up newsletter, exporting excel report sheets of current trials so that everyone is up to date on milestones and remining people of upcoming and missed milestones that may be late.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

You are given a lot of responsibility at Pfizer as an intern. In my experience you are treated very much as a member of the team from the start and although you get a lot of support and guidance, you are responsible for your own work and making sure everything is handed in on time and is done correctly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Many! I have become a lot better at excel since starting my placement which is going to prove very valuable in the future I'm sure. I am also better at communication with other people and have further improved my analytical skills that I have been developing in uni.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

You are supported throughout your placement at every step of the way. You are assigned a manager that is always there for you if you have any questions and the other members of the team were very friendly and always happy to assist you if you need it. You receive a lot of onboarding training and explanations at the start of your placement so you have a very good foundational base of knowledge before any of the more serious/important tasks begin.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Pfizer has a very good atmosphere in the office and the company culture is very much built around making sure the employees are kept happy and communication and networking are key. We are very much encouraged to get to know each other and form relationships with people in different areas of work as the office is so diverse in terms of the people and what everyone does.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Pfizer. Everyone at Pfizer made me feel really welcome and that they were excited to see all of us when we arrived. The people who I worked with closely were very kind and understanding and willing to explain things multiple times when I was struggling to understand them at first. Everyone is very focused on making sure you are not overworked but that you have enough to keep you busy and that you are making the most out of your surprisingly short time at Pfizer.

What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer

When filling out your application to Pfizer, make sure that your personality comes through as well as your extra-curriculars and achievements. A lot of the hiring process is based around your personality and your individual response to certain situations so go into it with the intention to show that you are capable of course but also an interesting and fun person to work with.
