Project Control Apprentice working within the planning team of the Advisory Consultancy PMO, providing co-ordination support to the PMO, planning and cost support to a Decarbonisation Programme and planning support to a Nuclear Decommissioning Framework.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

In first year of the BSc (Hons) Project Control Professional Degree Apprenticeship (PCPDA) course, as the PCPDA is a trailblazer apprenticeship that has been developed in conjunction with employers and the higher education providers I feel proud to be part of the first ever cohort of this newly developed project control programme. The apprenticeship includes a combination of work-based learning and business education, meaning the learning is much more rich and diverse than my previous degree which was solely university based.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my existing collaboration, communication, report writing, analytical skills and have established software, conducting meetings, networking and negotiation skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

As this is a newly established programme some areas of organisation regarding induction and availability of learning materials in advance could be improved however the support received from the college is faultless.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I cannot fault my employer on either personal support and understanding nor the commitment to my development. I am extremely grateful for the support they have provided so far.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The lecturers are very supportive and can be contacted at any time. The college staff are always willing to help and guide you through the requirements of the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The project control qualification provides the in depth theory and understanding required to perform in my role which on the job training simply would not have the capacity to provide. Not only the theory but the examples from the lecturers and fellow students of their experiences and how they have approached situations I use on a daily basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a number of networks across the business and regular updates on activities, events and initiatives you can get involved in. In my short time at Costain I have been involved in socials and professional networking events.
