Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I set out for CMCs, Kerbs, and Drainage on most days alongside Engineers. On top of this I Monitor structure's and batters to ensure there is no movement occurring from works surrounding these existing areas with the Surveying Team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme a lot. This is as I be with both the Surveying and Engineering teams. This means I get an extensive amount of experience in two very similar fields.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills including: topo's, and staking out. In terms of topo's I go into fields and take spot levels as well as survey the perimeter of these areas. In terms of staking out I use this feature to find existing control stations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured as I get a balance of on the job time, as well as time in classrooms learning the background of what I do onsite.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a phenomenal amount of support from my Employer whether that is from the Learning and Development Team or from my Management Team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive some sort of support, however in most cases we are set a task with presentations and then expected to use them to complete the tasks.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification helps me in order to see the background of what we do onsite.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are a number of activities out of work which are organized by Costain, as well as different teams within the offices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Costain to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The way you are treated makes you feel as though you are welcomed, even though in most cases when an Apprentice joins they need a lot of help as they haven't been exposed to the field before.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Costain?
In my opinion being yourself in the interview will help you to get far within Costain, as they do not only judge you over the qualifications you present to them but look at other characteristic's.
