Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Managing ongoing projects, doing monthly valuations with site visits, assessing changes to costs in a contract. Also doing pre contract cost estimates to understand if a project is feasible. Providing financial statements for clients and also doing some general project management such as attending meetings, writing minutes and coordinating information via email/
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

As with all jobs there is ups and downs, but overall the programme i enjoyable. I work with a great team of people who always look out for me and help me out when bot work and uni get too stressful. Overall the apprenticeship has exceeded my expectations on the connections I would make in the workplace.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have been learning lots of new skills through work and university. At university I have learnt more theory behind the job hen putting it to action at work. I have learnt how to use the measuring too CostX alongside developing my Microsoft Excel abilities. I have also gained my APM PFQ.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The university aspect of the job is very structured. My university are very organised and I have 10 week catch ups with my mentors on which you can ask questions and get feedback. The beginning of the apprenticeship as work was slightly less structured and more of an informal few months of training so you can begin to learn the job.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I mostly receive a lot of support from my employer, especially when it comes to receiving help from colleagues for university works. I have frequent check ins with my manager where I can raise any issues and feel comfortable to speak to anyone in my team for advice. I have not needed much support from elsewhere in the company such as HR so I can't comment on that.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive enough support form my university, the module leaders on the whole are helpful and the way in which the uni provide the content is easily accessible. On the whole I have not had to receive much support over the course of my degree, however, in my 10 week check ups with my mentor they make it clear whom to contact should I need any support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification provides the basic theory for my job. With this type of job the majority of what you do will be learnt day to day but it is very important to learn the basics especially construction technology and law. Other than that most of the things I do I have learnt on the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I believe there are various activities to do such as sports, going to local schools for presentations. There is a wide early careers network in the company that often do lunch time sessions and networking events. Unfortunately as a large part of my apprenticeship has been during COVID it has been difficult to get involved.

Why?
The company are a great apprenticeship provider who offer the support and benefits needed to make it enjoyable. There is a good work culture at the company with end of month drinks and flexible working arrangements with a split between work from home and the office allowing you to be flexible with your time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
Be prepared to be good with time management as doing a degree and work at the same time is not always easy. Especially now I have also started my chartership I have learnt how important time management is. Other than that I dont think any advice is needed, the apprenticeship scheme is well managed.
