Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Researching stories to write, phoning people for interviews, writing up stories for the website. Visiting people to get and story, taking pictures and interviewing them. Studying for my summer exams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
My team is great- they are very supportive and lovely to chat to. We have daily meetings which means I always feel included and understand what is going on in the day. I really enjoy my programme, the workload is just right.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt the format of BBC articles and how to make writing really engaging. Learnt how to make interviews interesting and how to improve questions you ask. I've learnt how to edit videos under timed conditions and take different photos.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is mostly well organised with support meetings and training days away. Some training details can be sent very last minute and confusing long emails can be sent out sometimes. We are issued study days before our exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is great with support- I always feel like they are ready to support me and can guide with any problems I may have. My mentor is also willing to answer any questions I have. Support can always be found
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Most of the lessons are interesting and helpful. Some of the online zoom lessons are not very engaging and can be hard to concentrate. Generally, they are happy to support me. I enjoy most of the lessons, however could be more interactive with a slower pace at times.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I've definitely used some of my learning into the day-to-day basis- like media law and how to make articles engaging with format. It's also great to learn how to make headlines interesting. I feel like I do know more about the role through the qualification
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are online voluntary zoom calls you can attend and listen to the lectures. Every so often, my office arranges for an evening out somewhere which is great. The apprenticeship has also taken me to Manchester, London and Wolverhampton, where I've socialised with people on my course
