Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I support the Actuarial Team with updating s/s, automating and simplifying valuation processes and help valuation tasks.
I am also working on a project involving colleagues across many different teams.
I have regular meetings to attend and also specific meetings about tasks/projects.
I have the responsibility of completing my tasks to the best of my ability and asking questions when unsure.
I complete regular BAU tasks such as updating spreadsheets and preparing for valuation periods.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme very much, I have learnt new skills, welcoming colleagues and the warm environment is nice to work in and helps me complete my task as all my colleagues are willing to help and answer my questions.
I have worked on various task and projects which has helped me understand the sort of things I am interested in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Throughout my apprenticeship I have developed many existing skills for example, communication, teamwork and listening skills.
I have also learnt many new skills like mapping/using automated spreadsheets, running different automated tools and processes and updating various spreadsheets and understanding how they are linked and what is needed for valuation periods.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well organised and structured. When I joined I had a very informative induction and met my Team and understood what sort of tasks/projects I would be involved in.
I have a day a week to study and I have regular catch ups with my manager. I have monthly catch ups with my training provider making sure I am on track with my studies/exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support.
I regularly catch up with my manager and am always able to ask any questions.
My team is very supportive when I am completing new tasks and explains how I should do complete the task.
The Apprenticeship Scheme Manager sets up regular call to discuss various topics to help us on our journey.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have monthly call with my training provider and, if I have any question out with these calls, I email my questions and they respond very quickly. I get regular emails checking up on my progress.
I have access to lectures and study support as well as textbooks and practice papers to help me prepare for my exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification helps me understand some of the terminology that is used in various spreadsheets and how things link together. The qualification also helps me see the wider picture when working on spreadsheets.
The core skills task such as communication helped my understand my communication methods better and helped me improve this.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are different activities such as social calls, meet ups, charity walks and much more to get involved in.
There are also different social groups depending on location which you can join and do different activities with outside work hours.
The company is very inclusive and always has some social event/activity coming up.

Why?
M&G is an incluisve environment and there are many opportunities to learn and grow. All the colleagues are welcoming and supportive and the programmes are well structured. Not only do you get experience in the working wold but also have the opportunity to study towards a qualification receiving support along the way.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G plc?
Always try your best when applying and ask others to read over your answers. Make sure to prepare well for the interview and do lots of practice. Research the company well and show your interest. Ask questions after your interview and be polite and respectful. Try your best and even if you are not successful this time around, you can always try again.
