Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Assisting with production execution from booking hotels, travel and catering, assisting with casting workshops, creating script master copies, helping create music licenses, data transfers and database creation, tracking cost logs and expenses, assisting with delivery schedule pre-mid- and post-production
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love this programme- I have never felt happier, more supported or more like I am being set up for success. I am in a 'safe space' environment where my personal needs are met, I have clear targets and goals, and I feel very privileged to be learning and working in this type of environment. I feel very fulfilled, and very hopeful about my future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
YES! I have learned how to budget, how to use kit, equipment and software, the production process, how to create pitches and decks, and how to use BBC systems, as well as 'soft' skills such as telephone etiquette, how to communicate efficiently and how to confidently network with others. I have also learned skills from the BBC Academy training and AllSpring Media college courses such as camera skills, radio training, and editing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure from AllSpring media is clear and set out from the start- we know in January when our college/training weeks for the year will be, which helps with forward planning, and we have regular meetings with our Assessor in order to track our progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have excellent support from my Line Manager, but the BBC also has several accessible support networks, ones available to all and some dedicated to targeted communities within the company, so I know who I can turn to in pretty much any circumstance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I do feel AllSpring Media does their best, and regular meetings with an assessor helps track progress, manage expectations and keeps us working toward our goals. I do feel the trainers may need some more support in teaching if it's not their full time role, sometimes.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel the extra lessons, classes and learning we have with the college weeks are imperative to our success- I love placement weeks, but the additional knowledge gained through the training providers keep industry doors open and keeps us adding to our arsenal of skills!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We often organise our own meetups, but there have also been opportunities to volunteer on set/productions which helps us gain experience, knowledge and industry connections- for example, working on Comic Relief or the Jubilee Celebration broadcasts. There's also the BBC club which has a lot of social events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Working at the BBC has changed my life- I feel more confident, more capable and like I have a future. I am learning and developing every day and I feel well supported by my Line/Scheme managers/previous apprentices. This is a very fulfilling journey and I love every minute!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself- I was always trying to fit into some sort of box and always lost my identity in my applications, When I applied for the BBC I really thought I had no chance so I went all out, undiluted, unapologetically 'me' - it was the best thing I did!
