Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I'm a Civil Engineer Apprentice working currently under the rivers team. This involves designing river diversions, scour protection and replacement flood storage schemes. A critical part of my role is communicating and integrating our designs with many other engineering disciplines and clients.

5/5
I have enjoyed being able to meet and learn from other professionals in industry. Working towards a goals and meeting expectations are the most satisfying part of the programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I learnt a whole array of new skills especially through hands on experience. This has excelled my career of not only developing my engineering knowledge but shaping my interpersonal skills of being organised, communicating with colleagues frequently and networking with others throughout the business.

Structure and Support

3/5
It is well organised in terms of support but is still in development as Level 6 apprenticeship are relatively new. The scheme is frequently developing but there is always a supportive team to guide you through the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, having constant check-ins and development plans.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Good support is provided from the training provider but this could be improved. Especially having better communication with the apprentices on when quarterly catch-ups are and understanding training provider expectations from the apprentice earlier on in the programme,
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It helps with my overall understanding of engineering principals but the hands on experience is more valuable.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes Mott Macdonald is a very sociable company and there are plenty of social activitivites and network opportunities.
