Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a site engineer required to put men to work on HS2, and show others the role of my job too. I gather information from drawings and my section engineer and set out the works for the operatives to complete.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my program a lot. There has been difficulty over the previous years due to a big gap in-between university visits; this leads t a collapse in communication and can result in myself failing modules. Within the company i feel respected and trusted and a key part of the team which is what i set out to be at the start of my apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have managed to be placed on First Aid Courses, Setting out courses, and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award outside of the workplace. Inside of the workplace i have managed to gain a lot of interpersonal skills with working in a diverse workplace and meeting a lot of different people.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Within Work it is very well structured, the university with us being the first year we have struggled massively; throughout COVID was a huge struggle too and during what could be perceived as the hardest years it wasn't enjoyable. However because of who i have worked with in this project and those before i have managed top get through it with a lot of great support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I have been lucky enough for my employer to be very supportive, with there being regular chats within the apprenticeship support scheme. They have tried to up the chat with university to work but there has been some downfall there.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Nothing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
There are aspects which will help me gain a better understanding and progress further with the ICE and in future roles of my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes , we have football every week within the project which helps to network within. We also have D of E which gives a wider experience of VINCI itself.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
