Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves going out with customer service engineers to learn how to repair Siemens Healthineers medical equipment. This ranges from X-ray, Mammography, Computerised Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Each day is different and the work activity could be a fault diagnostic, repair or preventative maintenance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme very much as it gives me the opportunity to work with leading medical technology and learn how medical staff use the equipment to care for patients everyday.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting the apprenticeship I have learnt new skills for mechanical engineering, electrical installations and electronic fault finding. These skills are utilised everyday. Within the first year of the apprenticeship it involved learning engineering topics such as using a electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, fitting and metal work including the use of a lathe and milling machine. Further to this I have gained a certificate in welding on stainless steel.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is structured in a way where the more you put in the more you get out. Alongside the goals set out for you, there is the opportunity to do more and learn more. It is important to be able to manage your own diary and be able to achieve targets to deadlines. The work is more than possible to achieve and you can easily get ahead.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support is always present as long as Siemens Healthineers are aware. All you need to do is ask and remain honest with your expectations. I have always been supported in my everyday work life.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider keeps an open line of communication and I have been told that I can contact them at anytime. My training provider always provide an answer to my questions and give guidance on how I am doing towards achieving the next qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualifications are directly related to my work and give me the ability to achieve my everyday tasks. For example electronic fault finding helps me find faults and diagnose equipment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
If you have an interest in engineering or the application of medical technology then it is definitely worth applying. Also it is a great job to further your career and get you on the right track to a better job.
