Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
ACCESS Development involved a four day insight into what it is like to work in a commercial law firm, ACCESS tutoring from Peppo Tutors
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed it; they have provided both cohorts with a generous amount of opportunities and dedicated a lot of time to helping us in our legal careers.
How well organised was your work experience?
4/5
ACCESS Development was very organised in August as we had a pre-planned schedule to follow. We have not yet completed all the components to the programme yet, but I expect these will be after exams.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
Yes, it has solidified what path I want to pursue as it not only motivated me, but it also made me understand the realities of what the job entails. They did not try to ‘romanticise’ it in a sense, which made it helpful when making decisions.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
When I travelled to the office, my travel funds were reimbursed. This will be the same when I visit the office in July.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
Commercial awareness, how to present a business pitch, public speaking, knowledge of the legal sector and careers, networking, creating my own brand, assessment centres

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
A lot! When I visited the office, I was given a tour and an insight into the practice areas. Learning about their diversity and inclusion efforts and meeting people that work there also gave me an insight into Clifford Chance as a firm.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Yes, I was able to go into the office and meet various lawyers, HR staff and trainees. This was the same throughout the virtual aspects of the programme.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Clifford Chance to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are extremely prestigious but not pretentious. It is a comfortable environment to be in and they provide a plethora of opportunities to people at all stages of their careers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Clifford Chance?
Research the firm thoroughly: its culture, practice areas, current projects and any recent deals they were involved in. They are always looking for diverse people so evaluate yourself to see what you can bring that is different from others.
