Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
On a day to day basis, I am responsible for the pre and post renewal side for my clients. This involves contacting local brokers (chasing payments and requesting documents), client executives (if I do not have a local broker, I talk to the client executives for them to contact the client) and insurers (help them issue policies and help them chase payments).
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy it here, the people I work with are great and form a really helpful and encouraging team. I always have someone to go to if I need help or am struggling with something I've not encountered before. The work is challenging which keeps my mind busy, therefore I do not get bored throughout the day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, one of the skills I have developed is communicating via emails, I can now talk formally when needed or be more to the point depending who I am emailing, this is important for building connections with internal and external contacts. I have also learnt a lot of computer skills, such as excel, word and powerpoint.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My induction was really helpful; we had lots of training and networking events to help us understand and get to know the company and the people within it. We have a lot of time set aside for studying which is useful as it prevents increased stress due to trying to balance studying and working simultaneously.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is incredibly helpful. She also sets aside time in her day to assist me with anything that I may be struggling with. My team as a whole are very helpful as well, I can always rely on them for assistance when I need it or when I am struggling.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have a tutor who joins me for quarterly meetings. In these we discuss progress with my revision for exams and my portfolio which is due at the end of my apprenticeship. We also do connect and learn sessions with our tutors which are two hour sessions tackling specific insurance subjects. Also, there are six hour, all day learning sessions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think it will be very useful in the insurance industry as a whole, and when it comes to progressing my career. However, as my role is very specialised, lots of the things I learn in my qualification may not actually be needed due to the niche nature of it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes there are, for example, we have several colleague resource groups. One example of these are the young professionals. There was also a Christmas meal organised by management which I attended with my team. We also sometimes make trips down to London in order to meet the team there and have lunch with the insurers.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Marsh McLennan to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a very inclusive company as they make everyone feel welcome. The benefits and pay are very good and I am always left with a manageable amount of work to insure I do not get too stressed within my job. The opportunities to develop your career are high in volume.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marsh McLennan?
The interview process can be quite daunting as you have to do a presentation, interview, written exam and group task which can be a new experience for many interviewees. However, it is not as bad as you think once you get started as it is was less formal than I first expected.
