Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have recently moved into Capgemini whilst being halfway through my masters degree apprenticeship. My role day-to-day consists of working on a range of cybersecurity topics within the operational technology field with clients to ensure we deliver quality service and support where needed. Additionally, Capgemini put an emphasize of development so listening to podcasts and watching courses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I would recommend a higher degree apprenticeship to anyone as a much better option than doing a degree on its own. Of course there are certain professions where this is not possible however my profession of IT/Cybersecurity I am definitely in favor for. I did a degree apprentice program lasting 4 years and then signed up for another 2 years doing the masters.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, the degree teaches you about leadership and methodical approaches to handling situations. Yes its true in my opinion that in some cases academia doesn't always translate to the work environment however the soft skills required for critical thinking and problem solving do. I have convinced other within my workplace that degrees when inline with work are beneficial and they have been convinced through my output.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Manchester Metropolitan and Staffordshire university do an excellent job at organizing the program. In the work place it can sometimes require you to be proactive to essentially remind people you have apprentice commitments and have some of your time split between fulltime work and your apprenticeship. This is to be expected as it is not an easy undertaking and requires management of time and expectations with people.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Plenty of support is provided. It is in the employers best interest that you thrive on the scheme as it will deliver great value to them as a business. I cant speak for all businesses however Capgemini and Siemens have been very supportive and when moving organization were keen on transferring the apprenticeship so that I could continue.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
This can differ as some modules require independence. Especially at the masters level. However, tutors at MMU and Staffs Uni are fast to respond an answer any questions they can. There are regular catchup sessions with tutors and coaches to ensure support is being provided and to keep you on target.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As previously mentioned the degree teaches you about leadership and methodical approaches to handling situations. Yes its true in my opinion that in some cases academia doesn't always translate to the work environment however the soft skills required for critical thinking and problem solving do. I have convinced other within my workplace that degrees when inline with work are beneficial and they have been convinced through my output.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Large workplaces often have groups you can be apart of. In a digital world there are many groups on Yammer but also more localized groups are often present. I myself have never attending any of these at Capgemini just yet as I have only been with the organization a short while and want to priorities getting to know my immediate team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have been with the company a short while and during that time I have been made to feel welcome and have been made to feel more comfy considering it is always a nervous undertaking, My nerves have definitely been settled by people reaching out to share experiences and have chats.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
To be motivated, hard working and good at communication. Being willing to learn and step out of a comfort zone helps greatly. Not just with Capgemini but many other organizations. Show what value you have contributed to other not just inside of work but to those around you. Be humble in recognizing there is always still plenty to learn.
