Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Sending emails to clients for any additional parties that they wish to add to their accounts, performing due diligence checks, answering queries from internal and external stakeholders, checking forms upon return and ensuring that forms are sent on to the correct teams. Involved in process improvements on the team and coaching.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed gaining a greater insight into how businesses function and gaining knowledge on a variety of areas such as stakeholders, communication, the use of IT in business, relevant policies and regulations, etc. The organisation I work for place a great focus on their employees which is great and a huge difference to where I have previously worked.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed many of my skills since I began here last January such as decision making, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills. I have undertaken a variety of online learning courses as provided by my organisation. I have learnt new skills such as those involved in project management. There are many opportunities for further personal and professional development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well organised - induction session organised and held over Zoom due to remote working conditions provided an overview of the course and how the apprenticeship would work. Great feeback from learning practitioners who are always on hand to assist with any questions that you may have. Regular cath up sessions held with learning practitioner to dicsuss past learning and anything you may need help with.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As part of the apprenticeship I am entitled to 20% off work each week, which accounts to one day a week. This was a struggle in the beginning, however, recently when a new manager started I made sure that I was getting my 20% time off each week. My line manager and team overall have been very supportive and always willing to held and assist me when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My learning practitioner has been amazing and always on hand to assist me with any questions or queries that I may have. We have regular catch up sessions to discuss my progress and any problem. She also provides me with in depth feddback for each activity that I complete as part of my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have gained a great insight into how businesses operate which has helped me better understand the ways of working within such a large organisation. I have gained a greater understanding of things such as stakeholder management, which I do on a daily basis, and project management, which I have out into practical use within my current role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

This was quite difficult considering that when I joined the organisation we were all working from home and not socialising. As restrictions have now eased, there are many social opportunities on offer for me to attend. In addition, we are also given 2 days off per year to undertake charitable work.

Yes
Why?
The organisation has a great internal culture based on valuing employees and their personal and professional development, not simply based on output and numbers. There are many opportunities for further development within the organisation and for further learnign and professional qualifications to be undertaken. Depending on your role a flexible working environment may be possible.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
Do your research and make sure that you understand about the organisation, its values and why you feel like you would be a good fit. Think about a few examples from your personal or professional life that show key skills such as communcation, problem solving, etc. Be prepared to potentially interview over Zoom.
