Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Every housekeeper gets a list at the beginning of the day telling them what rooms need to be cleaned. Cleaning rooms includes making beds, spraying surfaces, door handles etc, hoovering the room, cleaning the bathroom, restocking toiletries and refreshments. When we are finished cleaning we put dirty cups etc. in the dishwasher, take the rubbish out, and take the dirty linen to the linen room.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have been enjoying the program so far. It is great that I am able to gain a qualification whilst earning my own money. I am glad that this qualification will help open up more opportunities for me in the hospitality industry. My tutor has been very helpful and encouraging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I’ve become a lot faster at cleaning, When I make beds, I am able to make them a lot faster and neater. I feel that I have become more confident and less shy when talking to people as I have to speak to customers quite often in my job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is a structured but flexible program. I attend a video call every month with my tutor where we go over each topic. If I ever need some extra help on a topic I am able to email or arrange a call, and if I am not able to make a meeting it can be rescheduled.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer is always around to help out with things but sometimes takes a while to get back to me. She is very busy so sometimes forgets or takes a while to complete paperwork for the apprenticeship. She is always supportive and asks me how the program is going, however.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
He is always there to help and is easy to reach out to if I am stuck with my work. He always makes sure that I am prepared to move on to the next topic. I feel confident that I will do well because of the support I am getting.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
We went through a topic on housekeeping specifically which explained how to perform my job role to standard, however, most of the learning I have been doing has been on the wider hospitality industry. This means I have been learning topics that are not specifically relevant to my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There aren’t many activities that I know of. The hotel staff organise a christmas dinner party every year but I haven’t been able to attend this sort of event yet. I know that there is a Facebook group for all Premier Inn workers that a lot of people post on which helps to connect people from different hotels.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The staff and company are all very friendly and everyone is treated well at work. Everyone is paid a fair wage, especially for young people who are often paid less at other jobs. The rota is flexible as you can request specific days off which is very helpful when you are planning a day out for example.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
It is very important to be polite and kind to customers so that they have a good experience. You will need to be a quick worker but it is not important at first as you will build up speed through experience. It is a very tiring job so take a rest when you need to.
