Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Fitting work, changing UUT's. Programming tests from customer, troubleshooting software and hardware issues. First line data analysis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
Throughout my time on the apprenticeship I felt let down by the lack of organisation, direction and understanding within the company of how to involve teach and mentor apprentices at my level. I enjoyed aspects of the work but found the overall experience underwhelming.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Specific fitting work, test software functionality and programming.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Extremely poorly organised. A great lack of communication between program leaders and departmental supervisors on site leading to placement with no direction. Poor scheduling of units in college meaning crucial subjects for year 1 are not taught until year 3. Bad organisation leading to time sent in classrooms with no PC's for computer specific work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Minimal. Support is specific to who can provide it to you at the time. Year 1 is very limited access to the company recourses with a lot of dismissals of queries/issues. Year 2-4 support is extremely dependant on who you can get hold of.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Almost none in year 1. Years 2-3 very little. In year 4 the workload is somewhat dictated by the requirements of or qualification - the academia side is well supported by our WBLM, the practical aspects of the job (On site) isn't wholly supported opposed to it being simply facilitated.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The qualification allows me to perform my role in that it meets the requirements of the job - level 3 trained. It has enable me to lean some of the basic skills and knowledge required to perform competently. From which I have expanded independently.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
None that I can access to discus or maintain effective membership of as I do not have regular access to the network

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the company because of the opportunities it affords and the skills you can learn (if you can speak to the right people).
I wouldn't recommend my pathway - i.e. advanced apprenticeship, due to the sheer and damning lack of organisation, direction and communication.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Seek out opportunities and learn as much as possible. Know your rights as an employee. Record or have a witness to important conversations.
