Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Software Engineer Placement, I did testing for one project which includes writing code for use in testing and performing the tests to the required specification given. My day to day was testing anything assigned to me and researching/training in other things that may become useful.
On my second placement i did development, my day to day changed dependent on what was needed but i mainly created diagrams and coded in IDES.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I have worked on things that directly affects the project such as completing some of the testing needed for the project, finding bugs in code. Which is rather important considering the industry MBDA works in. Developing code to meet requirements, which will go directly onto the product.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Every placement is different, I personally was given a large level of independence and guidance on my first placement where I did test while on my second I had more of an oversight while working directly on the product code and was given less independence.
How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
4/5
How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
All of the early careers are great, the atmosphere is friendly and I've yet to feel excluded even when interacting with early careers outside of my department. Some of the upper management can be hit and miss with most being friendly and happy to provide guidance there are still some exceptions.
How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved my placement and have learnt a lot which I wouldn't have the opportunity to learn anywhere else. I can't recommend taking a summer internship or placement in MBDA Software sector enough, it will teach you a lot while also giving you a good idea if you want to stay in the company and defence sector as a whole.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend MBDA to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to MBDA
At the interview process try to be comfortable and open, at the end of the day nearly all technical knowledge can be taught however if you are to uncomfortable and closed off then your personality might not seem like a good fit for the team you would be working in.
Other Tips:
- Can't go wrong with Business Casual
- Don't stress yourself out during the interview and assessment phases.
- Learn everything you can
