Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work in the secondary maths team to oversee the creation of content for publishing education resources. I have been focussed on a digital learning platform. My work involves a lot of quality assessing of the work done by providers and technical knowledge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I do enjoy the apprenticeship, but I feel it is not very relevant to my role since the apprenticeship is very trade publishing based and my role is digital educational publishing. But I still enjoy learning about books.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I has zero publishing experience so pretty much everything I've learnt has been a new skill.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The provider is organised, Pearson less so. I have not found the structured support at Pearson very helpful - though my managers have been great at helping me.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My managers have provided amazing support, and have been very invested in my learning. Many within Pearson have been happy to answer questions or help where relevant. The apprenticeship team haven't really helped me as much.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My skills coaches at LDN have been really great with support, as have individuals within Pearson. I have a chronic illness and have felt able to share that and ask for accessibility requirements, which I have always received.
However, coming from having done a degree etc, I'm a pretty independent worker so I haven't needed that much support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
It gives me a wider understanding of publishing as a whole, but it doesn't really help me beyond that. It possibly opens doors for my career into other areas of publishing that I wouldn't have had otherwise.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I am involved in an Employee Resource Group called ABLE which is voluntary and advocating for disabled employees and customers etc. I think less of the other extra-curricular stuff has happened due to the pandemic, and fewer people in the office. There have been some quizzes and team socials etc but rarely.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like I am treated as a whole person, not just a machine. The people are friendly, I get to do work I enjoy, they value learning.
Some of the admin isn't good - it took me ages to get a desk and a monitor I was supposed to get in the summer still hasn't arrived!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Think about what skills you have that you can apply in the new role even if you don't have relevant experience. You need to show a passion for learning. Ask questions.
