Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Daily tasks to ensure registrations, entries and results are available for students. Problem solving. Liaising with internal and external customers. Creating work instructions. Identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and working practices. Ad-hoc work supporting other departments within the business at peak times. Supporting team members and assisting with training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoyed the content of the programme but did find it frustrating at times. This was only around the Functional Skills Mathematics though. Initially it seemed a little modular but I then got my second trainer who told me a different way of covering the topics which was easier.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have improved my customer service skills considerably. I now consider the bigger picture more and consider the possible outcomes of my actions. My interactions with customers has improved as well as my confidence in doing this. I'm more mindful of the customers position now.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure, or at least how I was advised to approach it changed and became easier. I had three different trainers along the duration of the course which I found a little disruptive.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I received a lot of support from my employer. My managers were particularly supportive throughout the duration of the course. Time was allowed to work on my apprenticeship whenever needed, they couldn't have been more supportive.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Although I had three trainers throughout the apprenticeship I did get lots of support from them. I also received extra support regarding FS Maths which I was very grateful for, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was excellent and deserves a special mention!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
A lot better! It has given me confidence in my role as well as changed my approach to how I work. I've become more organised and better at managing my workload. My customer interaction has improved as well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We have a sports and social club which hold events for it's members. We are also allowed study time to learn new skills e.g. computer based training. Pearson also offer up five paid days per year for volunteer work for good causes.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The working conditions are good. There is not a lot of pressure and there's lots of support from management and colleagues. Pearson look to promote from within where possible so there's always plenty of opportunities. The salary, pension and other benefits are excellent too
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Be yourself in an interview. If you are qualified to be offered an interview you are likely qualified for the job. It's often as much about the person rather than the qualifications. Be prepared to be flexible in what you do as you'll often support other departments.
