Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a senior associate in EY's Assurance (Audit) department, my role is to lead smaller engagements, audit the more complex, risky and subjective areas of the accounts, as well as act as a reference point for junior staff members
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have good days and bad days. Some days I find the work interesting, and not too stressful, other times I feel I'm under a lot of stress and pressure. Quality of management and coaching varies from manager to manager.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, my excel skills, people management skills, problem solving and my general professionalism has improved as part of my role within EY.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program, while being a niche area EY, as there are very limited people in my specific program, I have found that I can always ask questions regarding my progression, and resources are available to me if I require them.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Due to the nature of the business, the majority of support that I receive comes from manager/senior manager level. This varies from person to person, as some managers are better at people management and support than others.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

ICAEW provide all the college, and online resources I need to study towards my qualification. EY are also good with getting time off for study.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The theory of accounting and audit has been applied to the identification of audit risks and has been used to improve the quality of my work on a regular and consistent basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The springboard that it gives you into the accounting and professional services industry means that you'll be able to progress your career further, even if you don't fully complete the qualification with EY. The learning curve also sets you up well for the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Keep up to date with new technologies and how they can be utilised in a client facing service industry, be confident with people skills.
