I am currently a deputy manager of a delivery suite and i also work as a delivery suite coordinator. my job role includes both leading and managing. Either leading a shift and ensuring that the wards, staff and patients in our care are safe. I have a number of tasks which include staffing numbers and off duty, sickness reports and wellbeing checks, the day to day running of a delivery suite. I take part in the daily huddle which includes trusts from within our LMNS network. I work within the MDT ensuring women are receiving the appropriate care.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying the course so much. I am the only person in my trust who is on the course so i do not know anyone. although covid made interacting difficult, i still managed to work with a great team of people i didn't know and from all areas of the NHS. Work has been great as i have also had the opportunity to put my skills to use.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a wealth of skills that would not have been possible if i were not on the course. The first thing the programme did for me was give me confidence, i started to believe i could be the next leader and started to apply for jobs. I got both my roles while during the programme. I have learnt how to talk to people, how to have meaningful conversations, as well as the extra skills needed for my role, like access to the KPI and training, training to learn how to build the roster and finalise shifts and swaps for shifts.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course for most parts have been remote, this was due to the covid regulations, despite this the content did not falter. The information gained was just as valuable as if we was all in the classroom and i even think i took part more because it was virtual.
My DA coach has been wonderful and always there for support and guidance when needed.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

This was a difficult one as i work in the NHS. With covid and staffing shortages i have not had much time to get some time as i was always needed at work. However the support i get is second to none. I have a workplace mentor who has been supporting me as well as my manager who is more than happy to give me jobs to do to help me hit my target or meet a certain criteria
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have received a lot of support from my tutor during assignments and also with the virtual lounge. this support does not end with the lecturers but also extends to the library staff and the DA coach. nothing ever seems to be an issue and everyone was also helpful. I do not feel like a burden when i need help which helps.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Everything so far i have learnt on the apprenticeship has helped me at work. The very first session on strategy helped me when i sat in a meeting and for once i did not feel out of my depths as i knew what they were talking about.
Sessions from the aston edge helps me on a daily basis at work in my role as a team leader as i get to appreciate the team i have, understand what they need at the time and adjust how i deal with them in certain situations for example conflict within the team.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Currently there are no extra curricular activates for my place of work. this seems to be due to the covid restrictions. although things are beginning to open up, we a still a but behind as we continue to follow public health england guidance. In my spare time i like to go to the gym however i am finding that even when i am not at work, i am still working.

Yes
Why?
Athough we have faced some tough times with the pandemic, i do not think i would have got through it without the support of my team and collagues.
we were all going through the same thing and this made use stronger, when we lost team mates to covid we pulled together to support each other, when the women were alone we all made her feel special. there is such a brilliant ream spirit and this is what makes my place of work enjoyable.

Make sure you love what you do.
