Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a consultant software engineer - whatever client i get chosen to work on will provide the work I do day to day. This leads to a varied day to day, depending on the client. Currently I am a security risk analyst with a prestigious fashion house, working to support their BAU and CI efforts
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy the opportunity afforded to me by the programme, i feel that with covid and my current placement i have not enjoyed it as much as i would expect to, but it is still enjoyable. I am more looking forward to the future experiences and getting to actually engineer software soloutions

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The current placements I am on have not enabled me to learn new skills per se, there is a lot of logical reasoning involved with the security analysis process, for example identifying a vendors level of access from the information they provide us and then assessing what security measures/risks surround that particular instance

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
From the Capgemini end I would say that it is fairly well structured. However the training provider - Aston University are disastrously poor. They consistently wait until the last minute to sort time tabling, there is very limited contact between us and the lecturers (for example a 125 learning hour course with only 5 hours of webinars, which are all q & a and not actually teaching hours).
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As much as i need! Theyre fantastic with not being overbearing but still available when i need them to be.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Limited at best, Aston university are poor online providers. It feels very much that they care more about their onsite students rather than their online apprentices. The lectures themselves have been very disjointed and there is a massive bias on us as students to carry out self learning. Im sure for some students this is perfect for them but for a majority i would wager a more even split of contact hours to self study would have a massive positive impact on our learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
So far it has not helped in the slightest, however that is more due to the placement I am currently on not being one where i can utilise software skills that i have learned. However there is one module, so called 'Professional Practice' that is belittling and patronising. I would urge the university to scrap this module entirely.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Plenty!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would say see above to be honest! They're the perfect balance between hands on and independent learning. The people are friendly and the work is varied
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
Have a clear idea what you want to get out of your career with them and use that within your interviews and then development at Cap, they will really help you steer in the right direction.
