Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am responsible for administering medication to residents to ensure their health and well being is maintained. I assist with personal care and ensure care plans are up to date. I am a leader and lead a team of care staff to ensure our residents are safe and looked after
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning new things and putting them in practice daily. All our residents needs are different and as a senior carer I need to be up to date with all policies and procedures due to them changing as well as ensuring I am administering medication safely and also effectively

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since my employment I have learnt how to manage a team of care staff to ensure my staff are up to date with their training and are working safely, I work with other professionals such as GPS and District Nurses to ensure our residents health is maintained to give them quality of life.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Due to me working on night shifts my tutor has agreed to contact me during the night as I had fallen behind with my course. Thanks to her I am now back on track. I don’t feel overloaded with units sent to me and she is always there to support me
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive support from my employer by attending training on days to suit my working hours so I am not too tired after working nights even though my manager is training herself due to a promotion. I know I have support at anytime of the day from all senior members of staff if my manager is not available
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive support from my trainer day and night when needed. I work night shifts and is hard to stabilise my working shifts. I fell behind with my training and once I had spoken to my tutor she agreed to contact me during the night shift when quiet to catch up
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Knowing that policies are always changing my qualification ensures I am up to date with the current legislations at the time and i can then inform my staff of further training for the policies that have changed to ensure they’re kept up to date and working safely and effectively
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I don’t think there is. I’m not sure that they even could be due to working night shifts. However if residents are awake during the night and are struggling to settle to sleep myself and my night staff encourage activities to keep them occupied and their mind active

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Bupa to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Since working for Bupa I have been a lot happier in my working role. My manager pushes you to progress in the company which is always something I have wanted to do since coming into care work. The management are supportive of their staff and offer other opportunities such as nursing associate courses etc
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bupa?
Don’t overload your working hours, it’s easy to do due to sickness and the current covid 19 but just remember they have a life outside of work too and the balance needs to be maintained. Don’t take on too much training all at once and don’t forget to seek support if needed from senior members of staff. We have been there too .
