Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Moving throughout different placements on a 6 weekly basis, learning different functions in the business I am working for. Learning a broad range of activities and processes so that when I finish my 2 year apprenticeship I am able to fit into any role. Including tool stores, warehousing, transport etc. One day at college per week to earn a qualification.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

As I move about every 6 weeks, I meet all kinds of people throughout the business and I am constantly making connections. Due to the varied range of people I am meeting, I enjoy my time. Being paid to learn, whilst earning qualifications is a huge bonus as personally I did not want full time education.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Whilst working for this business I have been trained up on a Forklift Truck and continuously developed this whilst working on my apprenticeship due to daily use. I have learned computer systems to do with warehousing operations and I am currently working towards a qualification through Furness College. Communication skills have been improved whilst I work throughout the business.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is fairly well organised. There was a slight shaky start to it due to access on our site (security reasons) but once this was resolved the programme started properly and has been laid out for us very professionally. I know where I will be for the next year with my placements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employers. I have various managers and past colleagues that I know I could count on if an issue arose. There is also a support system in place for any issues you may encounter in your professional or personal life, which can also be extended out to family members.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our training provider gives us all the relevant information we need and tailors the courses and lessons to suit us. We are given more than enough time to complete our studies. The teachers are very supportive and knowledgeable in the topics that are being taught, so it makes learning easy and breaks the working week up
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that we earn through our provider is a supply chain / logistics based qualification which perfectly translates over to what our job role will be after we finish our apprenticeship. From the months I have been at college I have already been able to apply some of the knowledge into my working week.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Personally I have not attended any events currently due to having personal holidays conflict with these times. But I have been offered numerous times on my placements by different groups of people. Also in the future I have planned to participate in social activities with my apprentice group and my placement team.

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The support network in the business is second to none, and the workload that the business has will keep me in a job for life. With a large number of orders, A job for BAE systems can be a job for life. Not many other businesses can offer an opportunity like that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure you fully know the role you are applying for. What your daily job will be, what the intake process is, how the apprenticeship works. Thorough knowledge in what the business is currently doing is also preferred. As long as you have researched the business and know what the job you're applying for is, you will be fine
