Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My day to day job involves running building services engineering consultancy projects majorly in electrical services. I carry out designs and calculations using softwares such as CAD and Revit and read the latest government standards to make sure my design is compliant

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Although my programme is mentally challenging, i have enjoyed it because it has allowed me to develop as an engineer and make my designs come to life on site.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting my apprenticeship, i have learned multiple skills and developed on my existing skills greatly. I have learned how to use revit, amtech and dialux softwares as well as learning how to discuss my designs with the design team on my projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

In terms of my company, the programme is structured extremely well, with constant audits and discussions on how to improve it. However, with my learning provider there is huge steps that need to be taken in order to fulfil its potential.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have as much or as little support from my employer as i require. Therefore, it is down to me to decide as and when i need it. During the early years i relied on them less.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Towards my qualification, they seem really helpful towards the start of the programme, however, towards the more challenging but yet more important years they seem to go a bit quiet and not offering as much support, especially during COVID.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has allowed me to gain some sort of respect in the industry as i am not a qualified engineer. It also has allowed me to create a social media present which allows me to interact with industry specialists and keep up to date with the latest information.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My company encourages extra curricular activates as much as possible, it is a part of our yearly review as a group. Since COVID it has become more difficult, however, they are trying to change it so we go back to the normal procedure.
