The role I am in provides very different work on a day to day basis which is all dependent on our client needs. We provide international tax advise to large companies to ensure they are paying the right tax. This is a lot of reading and understanding legislation.
In the first year, you do the stereotypical admin, however we are recruiting more staff to do this side of things, and in your first year, it is more of a coordination role than carrying out time consuming admin yourself.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the exams challenging which is understandable being a Level 7 apprenticeship. However, the work is fascinating as the law is forever changing and we are forever looking at clients with different backgrounds, meaning no piece of work is ever exactly the same. The people I work with and do college with are all lovely and everyone would happily take time to answer any questions I have which makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Not to forget the social side of things too!
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed a huge number of skills from improving my excel, powerpoint and word skills, to finding out about how the financial side of things work and reading technical legislation followed by breaking it down for someone else. These are all skills I am continuing to building and improve on every day!
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

They are forever improving the structure of the programme, as I know those in the year below me are sitting their exams in a far better order (completing the tax exam before the accounting exam for example).
In terms of organisation, all data about the exams is available online, however I have been told college dates quite close to the time before, which makes planning ahead slightly harder.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a huge amount of support from my employer. I receive both study leave, and they have paid for me to resit exams in the past. They also ensure I am getting off work on time to study and making sure they can do all the can to help me suceed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a huge amount of support from my training provider too. I have 9-5 access to message/email tutors every day if I'm doing a question and get stuck. I can also request a call back too if it is easier to discuss/I learn better that way.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I appreciate that the qualification I am carrying out is broad and opens up a lot of doors, however it isn't all that useful with my specialist line of work. I did my first relevant exam last week, which really helped me in my role, but a lot of the exam content is very broad.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been involved in the women's network where I have attended meetings and heard a lot of very inspiring speeches!
Socially, I have been on all kind of events, including the classic drinks down the pub, as well as going to the local racecourse, completing an escape room and going out for a fancy meal. There are socials to suit all and you can attend which ever ones you want.

Why?
They have a positive representation, and are a worldwide large company who have a huge number of opportunities for individuals. You can be paid to get a large variety of qualifications which are forever expanding, and the people who I have met at Ernst & Young are lovely. We all support each other.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Be yourself when going through the application stage. Make sure you practice the online tests and ensure you know the job role inside out at your interview stage. Be passionate, interested and willing to learn. These are all traits that will help you at succeeding in your career of choice.
