Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Deputy hotel manager at a 99 bed hotel. I oversee front of house, housekeeping. As well as this I am responsible for the health and safety of team and guests, payroll, finance, rotas and well being of my team. I full day to day control of the hotel, overseen by the cluster hotel manager
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying the programme a great deal now. I had a time during summer 2021 when this wasn't the case, due to the pressures of the Covid pandemic and a high guest turnover. Thanks to a great trainer I was back on track and feeling happier within a few weeks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting my role and my apprenticeship I am a lot more confident on a huge number of areas. I am fully competent in all matters surrounding team recruitment. I have a much wider knowledge of financial matters and I am currently developing my skills in the human resources department

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Considering the pressure of the pandemic and no face to face meetings or classes, I have found the whole apprenticeship very well organised. My trainer keeps me up to date with where I am, what I need to be doing and makes sure email invites are sent out in a timely manner
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am lucky to have a great support system. This consists of my team, my peers, my hotel manager and regional manager. I also have the added benefit of being able to contact other deputy hotel and hotel managers if I am in need of advice in areas outside my knowledge base
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Considering the pressure of the pandemic and no face to face meetings or classes, I have found the whole apprenticeship very well organised. My trainer keeps me up to date with where I am, what I need to be doing and makes sure email invites are sent out in a timely manner
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Doing the Level 4 apprenticeship has given me a much wider and deeper knowledge of the hospitality industry as a whole. I find this helps when explaining new procedures or brand standards to my team. It had helped me 'think outside the box'. I often think back to modules I've studied when a new situation arises.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Since the Covid pandemic and social distancing arose, extra curricular activities all but stopped. As a small team we do try to organise evenings out, the most recent being a bingo night and meal at our adjoining restaurant. We are putting plans in place for summer at the moment and hope to hold a family picnic and sponsored walk

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have been with the company for almost 8 years now. I feel cared for and appreciated by the company as a whole as well as my own management team. We are listened to, rewarded for going above and beyond, paid well for the job we do and always being reminded of work/life balance
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
Be yourself! If I am recruiting for potential team I don't judge on exam results, work breaks for family commitments. I look for enthusiasm, honesty and integrity. If you've had 5 years out of work being mum or dad, great, you've learnt a lot of new skills. Don't have a suit for interview, fine, just make sure you are clean and tidy!
