Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work within the Learning and Development team within Solent NHS Trust. We as a team oversee all of the statutory and mandatory training of the Trust. I work closely with the trainers to create learning modules and ensure that staffs learning experience is the best it can be. I speak a lot between our staff and trainers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme enough that I have done level 2 and 3 consecutively. It has allowed me to gain the skills to work within the NHS Learning and Development skills whilst also gaining a transferable qualification. Having programmes available in such a vast variety of roles makes them so accessible to everyone, no matter who you are, where you are in your career or what you want in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My customer service skills are always improving throughout the role as no day is the same. I have improved my Microsoft teams allowing me to use programmes such as MS Teams on a daily basis. I have also learnt transferable skills in programmes such as storyline allowing me to create eLearning modules from scratch.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My tutor is absolutely amazing from Chichester college she is so supportive and has adapted to my way of learning, my manager has also been extremely supportive throughout my whole programme. I have a lesson every month-6 weeks on a Thursday and am always given time each week to study.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is so supportive and has been all the way through my level 3. The apprenticeship team within the trust is also always there if I need them, they have recently also started conducting review meetings not just for their new apprenticeships but also for their apprentices that have carried onto higher levels.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I get given 1 day a week to focus on my study, and have lessons within these days some weeks to support with my qualifications. My manager is also always there to help with any assignments that I am working on, and attends my quarterly reviews with my college assessor to ensure I am on track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The level 2 I think especially benefitted my role as I was completely new to the role so it gave me a good outline. However I'm not sure that the level 3 has been completely relevant to my job role and sometimes has caused me to have a higher work load to cover all of the modules.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
This has been harder with Covid however there are always exercise classes such as yoga etc that are available for us to attend via zoom, within my job role I do also get invites to conferences for eLearning specific sessions. NHS is also available to us to complete webinar sessions.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have worked within 3 different NHS trusts and Solent have by far been the most supportive, especially for my development. Being able to gain qualifications whilst doing a job that I love is so amazing. The trust really lives by it's values but is always open to feedback and actually listens to this and makes positive change!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
It's the perfect place to join at any point of your life and career.
