Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Mechanical fitter for the majority, moving throughout the sections learning an away of different skills. This is done with a mentor who will show you what to do and supervise you.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
Going to college with the other apprentices can be a lot of fun, get on with the others in the group. Also working within a team on site once you get to know them is also fun. Though is a big negative attitude overall.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I am more confident in my electrical and mechanical skills as I did have experience in this before.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Not very well structured. Induction was a bit of farce as the manager was not in. Training is only getting sorted now (1.5 years in). Also what we do at college does not line up with what we do at work. Not the right course for the job.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
They do give a lot of support where they can. Having done this while covid has been ongoing and generally solved majority of problems unless it is related to the course. (which they dont give a straight answer about)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
At College there is a large amount of support, and they will make sure you get the qualifications you need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
Very little, apart from the health and safety aspect at college which has helped at work keep myself and others safe most of what we do at college is not at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
No
Why?
The courses they offer are not related to the work. Unless you want to stay at Babcock for your career I would not advise start an apprenticeship here, would be best to do elsewhere due to the nature of the work
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
Ask to have the apprenticeship laid out and make sure they can cover the work which you are required to do so you can pass.
