Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role includes assisting the branch manager with day to day responsibilities, ensure that all equipment sent from out branch is up to standard and compliant. Issue daily reports to the business to show how many tools are on hire against the branches targets. Opening and locking up each day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I found the programme very enjoyable, my coaches were very understanding and moved at a pace so everyone was up to speed. It was also good to meet colleagues from other parts of the business and understand what they enjoy about working for Travis Perkins along with what challenges they face.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Although I was already a manager in my current role and previous role I did learn new skills to assist in my development. Some of the key skills that I have learned during the programme are how to deal with conflict, learning who is best suited in my team to delegate tasks to.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme was very well structured, the programme was detailed out at the start of the programme and the coaches were always on hand to support and assist. If there were any issues or anything that no one quite understood they would ensure that the colleague and everyone was fully aware before moving on to the next topic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
At Travis Perkins they are very keen on personal development so I had support from my manager, regional director and all colleagues within my branch. I also had support from other colleagues from the business who had completed an apprenticeship. Support was always on hand whenever I needed help or guidance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support I received by my trainers was brilliant, we had regular check ins. I fell slightly behind with some of my work so towards the end of the programme I had weekly catch ups with my trainer which prompted me to complete any outstanding modules I had left to complete.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has definitely helped me in my current role, having an understanding of other colleagues learning styles has made me more conscious about how I approach them with new tasks. Also, this has helped me identify any issues colleagues may have and how to approach them and deal with the issue.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
As a support function for the business we don't really get involved in social activities but we arrange for nights out as a team such as bingo, going for a curry or just for drinks. We have a very close and diverse team so it's always good when we go out.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Travis Perkins plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe in what Travis Perkins stand for with their cornerstones especially being the best, upholding family values and keeping people safe which has never been more prominent since the start of the pandemic. Safety is at the forefront of everything we do, if we can't do it safely then we don't do it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins plc?
When joining Travis Perkins it can be a bit daunting with all the courses you need to complete. However, once you get through that it's a great place to work. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help from the yard staff all the way through to senior management.
