Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is a Hotel Manager which involves looking after two sites in my region. Day to day basics is to make sure all critical controls are completed and correct to make it safe for employees and staff. It’s also to support the DHMs in hitting the targets on our performance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme and found it very beneficial for my job role. I’m a type of person who likes self development and expanding my knowledge. The course helped me with a lot and it’s covering a lot of different topics helping me with understanding better and putting it in place for my hotels.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship I have learned a lot about management styles and how it affects the team. I have also learned a lot more about developing the team and challenges within the business and team. I have also learned a lot about legalization acts and the importance of them in business.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It’s very well organized and structured. The topics are perfect for the programme and covers a lot of information which is very educational. Organization of the webinars are perfect helping us focus on work and carry on with our learning. The my life portal is very good and informative.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is supportive in my course giving me the possibility to take time and focus on my course. They are very helpful when we do skills endorsement and give me a good feedback helping me focus on the right things on the programme. They are on the course too which makes them very understanding.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has been very supportive. We have got calls schedules after every webinar. If anything was not explained well she does go through everything with me to make sure I’ve got a full understanding and I’m confident in all topics. She’s always happy to chat or email about it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

More knowledge and experience that I take from the course helps me with my role and running the hotels. A lot of stuff we went through I have challenged in my work life and managed to use the knowledge successfully. By doing the course I’m fully confident in it too.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There’s no activities apart from earning money for GOSHH. We are allowed to create some social events to earn money for the charity. Since I’ve been in the business we had a lot of ideas but due to covid we haven’t had a chance to go through with it

Why?
It’s a great company to work for. There is a lot of perks to work for whitbread and employees are treated fairly and right. Whitbread offers a lot of development to the employees too like a free apprenticeship, or stepping up to another role, moving into a different departments too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
Complete the application and do your job well as it’s a great company to work for. There is a lot challenges like in every workplace but for a long run there is a lot of positives in the business. My experience with whitbread has been more than amazing and I’ve learned a lot.
