Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a full time university student for the first two years of the programme and then do work placements over the summer. During my placements I get to experience different technology and data departments within the firm. I get to have an impactful involvement in the projects where daily tasks can vary from project to project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy being a full-time university student as I am able to have a normal university life and do my placement in chunks rather than working and going to university simultaneously. There is a lot of support channels available which is a benefit than just doing the apprenticeship. I am looking forward to getting to experience more departments within the firm and gaining more skills.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my university degree I am able to expand my knowledge in mathematics, computing/data and statistics. On placement I had the opportunity to learn how to take effective notes during meetings so they can be referred to beyond the time of the meeting which I can use in my university life. I have also learned how to use software platforms Alteryx and Power BI which I was able to obtain certifications in.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The overall placement to university ratio is well structured as work and university do not overlap. We have weekly engagement sessions while at university to maintain in contact with the firm. You can provide a preference as to which department you want to do your placements in however the amount of choice you have can vary by university.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We are treated like any other employee if the firm so have access to all the benefits that all other employees have in the firm such as private medical care and flexible working schemes. Being salaried is a bonus for managing student debt. The apprenticeship team are also always available for support regardless of whether you are on placement or not.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My personal tutor at university is in contact with my employer therefore I have both channels of support while at university. We have semesterly tri-partite meetings where you have an individual catch up with a personal tutor and a member of the apprenticeship team in order to check how your university qualifications are coming along. While on placement we get provided with materials in order to obtain professional qualifications and can get support alongside that.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel my degree is not fully aligned with my role while on placement as the content of my degree I rarely use while on placement. However, it teaches me key skills such as working independently, time management and self motivation which I can apply to my work in the firm.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a wide variety of committees to get involved in. We also get invitivations to lots of work social events such as quizzes and special occasions. There is also an annual panto where you can apply creative skills from costume design, an acting role or looking after the guests during the shows. We also have social occasions within our university cohorts where we can engage and get to know our peers.

Why?
There is a vast variety of different roles you can take on at PWC. These can aid develop a wide area of skills. It also provides lots of opportunity to travel as they are based around the world. There is also the ability to switch job roles while in the firm and lots of opportunity for growth and promotion.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
PWC are very personable and look for people who are able to build relationships with peers and clients while providing a great service. My advice would be to be yourself as there is such a wide variety of personalities in the firm and the firm are able to see your potential therefore you don't have to be an expert to apply to the firm. You just need a willingness to learn.
