Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a trainee management consultant my role involves a range of things from analysing data sets to identify opportunities for operational efficiencies to writing reports for clients on their readiness for new legislation or IT software. My job also involves using software such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. My job involves speaking to a range of stakeholders within private and public limited companies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme because it is rotational and had therefore a enabled me to experience a range of different roles and business areas. I enjoy the fact I can study towards a professional qualification along side my full time job. I enjoy the responsibility the programme also gives me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed skills such as: presenting, facilitating, negotiation, interviewing, consulting, coaching, leadership and analysis. In addition I have developed soft skills such as: communicating and presenting with confidence. Also I have learnt how to analyse data using Microsoft excel and how to report write for a variety of clients.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme was initially rotational which meant rotating around the business undergoing placements across different functions. This was well structured and managed. I knew when I would be stopping and starting a new rotation and could plan and prepare. Also we are told when exams are in advance and helped to manage our time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. For example in studying for my professional qualification my employer will allow me to take study leave off and also flex my hours so I can revise. Also I have support from my employer on the job through regular performance management conversations.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive varied support. In the past before COVID we would go in centre and I would get face to face tuition and support. This was better than the current situation whereby we study via online lectures where it is harder to get one to one support. That said we are offered a tutor to help or through out studying who we can contact.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It does in some aspects. These include data analysis and understanding how the wider business works and also the regulatory requirements of my role. However some aspects of the qualification are not helpful in my role because they do not relate to my work for example financial accounting and debits and credits.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of extra curricular activities to get involved in. These include socials such as team events where we meet up face to face. Also virtual coffee and catch-ups and coffee roulettes with senior partners and directors. Also we have various sports, religious and social teams to be part of eg Christian Society.

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend KPMG to my friends and family because the company looks after you and also pays well. The company has a great ethos and reputation and it values team work and collaboration. Also the people are great to work with and it has propelled my career in such a short space of time.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
I would say be yourself. Everyone at KPMG prides the self as bringing their whole self to work. This is evident in the range of diverse people KPMG employs and the subsequent value this enables us to bring to our clients- diverse thinking outside of the box ideas and genuine passion.
