2.8/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
As an audit junior, you perform many mundane, repetitive tasks, this is expected in a junior role, however, often you will be given more difficult & complex tasks without being provided with sufficient coaching and will have to rely on reviewing prior year materials to understand complex industry specific terms and concepts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
There is little to no personal progression, the coaching is very minimal, most of our learning is undertaken independently, rather than being taught in an education centre and the hours and expectations are not matched by the little pay we get. There is a very toxic culture within the company, and the role of an apprentice, and the corresponding expectations of our roles and understanding is not respected by managers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Due to the nature of constantly rotating teams and engagements, it is very difficult to develop soft skills at this company.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
We get a reasonable amount of study days which is good, however, these are often not respected by managers, which means they get moved around, postponed, and impacted by the audit work we perform. Audit work is the priority here, not studying or your qualification.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
There is little to no support, it has been very disappointing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
No
Why?
There is a clear lack of support for all trainees, but apprentices especially. Even from when I joined nearly two years ago, the expectation of us has increased, and there is an ever worsening work environment due to layoffs and general negativity throughout the office. The support during your qualification is very minimal and the general work environment is not suitable for the role that is outlined in the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Make sure you fully understand what it is you are applying for before you do, check the expectations and work hours etc. Using online forums is very helpful in understanding this
