Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I write policy and Standard Operating Procedures to provide assurance that all research within our organisation is appropriately approved, safe and that we have the capacity and capability to deliver the research within specific specialty areas. I also manage a team of 15 and am responsible for performance management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The programme itself is very enjoyable. It is well structured and topics introduced in the first module have been a running thread throughout. The background reading and support for academic writing has been excellent

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
The learning on the course has provided me with a wider and deeper understanding of management, strategy, change and risk so far. As a result of my learning i have a list of ideas and processes that I would like to introduce to enhance our service.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The programme is well organised and the structure flows well. The delivery and organisation of the programme is less so.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive as much support as I require. If I need additional guidance / support I know where to go to ask. I tend to be very self sufficient but when I need help I usually get it. It is up to me to schedule my on the job learning, so i tend to diarise that myself.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I've not asked for additional support, but I would know where to go to get it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It has enhanced my existing knowledge and encouraged me to think differently. I have changed my writing style already and am more able to produce good quality papers to board level. The course has encouraged conversations with a multitude of other areas across the organisation, and opened opportunities which I have taken and will continue to pursue.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Pre-COVID19 pandemic we used to go to the pub once a month, and there is a running club too. I occasionally engage, but at the moment those types of activities are on line or don't go ahead. I don't tend to engage with on-line social events because I spend a lot of time in 'zoom' or 'teams' calls all day!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
NHS is a fabulous employer. There are opportunities should you choose to seek them out and take them forward. There are a multitude of different aspects of the NHS. Clinical or non-clinical there are so many opportunities - ask to find out more about each area.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Read the person specification and apply your experience appropriately. Don't assume that the person reading your application will know what you've done previously - tell them but be brief, factual and keep to the point.
