Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work as part of the buying team in solent which deals with the day to day spending which the whole trust does. This can be anything from ordering rubiks cubes to setting contracts up with suppliers. One of our other main goals is to save as much money as we can where possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the variety of units on offer and available to choose from. Speaking of choosing, I also love the way that apprentice's get so much input in choosing the units they think will be most relevant and sound the most appealing. I think this element stands out compared to other methods.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

When i first joined in my role i was not very confident and not very organised. I believe my organisation skills have dramatically improved since i joined solent. I have become a lot more organised in my personal as well as work life so this is a very important skill for me.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured, I feel like there is so much support but again also a level of independence. Chichester college have been very consistent in the style of organisation and very easy to follow along with. Overall a very good experience. I simply could not fault it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received a lot of support from my employer. More than my last apprenticeship which was in a primary school. I have a constant network of support that I can turn to for any aspect of my apprenticeship. They also leave you to it if you need to be left to it. You have a lot of input and so much support if needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Pretty much the same as my employer which is a lot of support, but they also just let you get on with what it is you are doing. You have a lot of input into how much support you need and identifying your areas for improvement so it feels like you are in control.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

IT definitely helps so much in my day to day role as i have learned many transferable skills which i can apply to so many different areas of my job. Mainly organising things and managing my time a lot better. This is something that my team and managers have all noticed.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are so many different which anyone who works for solent nhs trust can take part in. Many sporting activities, lots of different types of therapy and mediation. A lot of wellbeing support on offer as well. Since covid, there has also been a lot of online classes like yoga.

Yes
Why?
It is a fabulous place to work and the benefits are absolutely endless. The support you receive is second to none and i have never worked with so many amazing and talented people. Solent really gives people the biggest opportunity to find their calling in life. I also agree with Solent's Heart values.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
Make sure that you are applying to the correct job for you! There are so many different teams and so many different roles and positions out there in the trust and there is literally something for everyone. Solent is an amazing place to work and the variety of jobs on offer is great.
