Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My general role is to use EEG tests in the diagnosis, classification and management of epilepsy. On a daily basis, I am tasked with checking the referrals, inviting the patients, performing the test on the patients, reporting the test and submitting the report to the consultant for the review. I am also involved in departmental tasks beside patient care.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme has been a great success especially in the first year and a half as it integrated teaching components from the university and work components at work seamlessly. However, the onset of the COVID pandemic impacted the final stages of the course where the teachnings, deadlines and assessments coincided with multiple streams which made it stressful.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills over the three years and more so developed my already existing ones. For example, I have developed my communication skills event further by speaking to staff and patients regularly. I have also taken part in departmental audits which has developed my responsibility skills and audit skills with the aim to improve services of the department.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer has been very very supportive throughout the course. This stemmed from the manager which spread all the way through to the staff who were training me. For example, when there was time needed to perform academic tasks, dedicated time was given to complete the tasks without compromising patient care.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider has provided the best possible services to the student, especially in the personal sense. For example, my academic supervisor would always go above and beyond to answer any questions or help that I needed from the university. This was especially relevant during the exam and assessment season.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With the qualification that I have received from the training provided, I believe that I am fully equipped for the actual role when I do become successful in obtaining a post. This is because having trained in the same work place for 3 years, I have learnt the ins and outs of the department and how it functions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My workplace allows socialising after the work hours in the form of sports for example. I take part, or used to take part prior to the covid pandemic, in football matches with the work colleagues. This used to be funded by the trust and personally I felt very happy taking part in this.

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The NHS simply provides the best. The NHS leads the world in terms of equity of access and ensuring people don't suffer financial hardship when they are ill. It also performs well in managing long term conditions like diabetes and kidney disease and is relatively efficient compared to other health systems. Thus it will ultimately benefit the patients that to harm them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
While applying applicants should consider the following. They should understand the duties and responsibilities of the post being applied for. They should hihglight their skills relevant to the post. They should also highlight the knowledge and/or experience which is relevant to the post. They must also mention privious work in the NHS and what they gained, their voluntary that they have accomplished and finally any research, publication and/or presentation experience.
