Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Driving revenue growth of products and services within existing and new accounts, pipeline management, account and relationship management, working with cross functional teams to develop solutions and ideas to drive growth inline with strategic priorities, contribute to bids/tenders to win new business directly with employers and other stakeholders to win and deliver large value contracts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
In my current job i do contribute towards bids/ tenders but this apprenticeship standard is supporting my development in this area whilst fitting in well with my current job role. I am enjoying being involved in projects which would usually fall outside of my usual job role and this has given me a renewed passion for learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
New Skills learnt include an understanding of customer engagement, capture planning and competitive tendering. A better understanding of the roles and responsibilities required for each bid and proposal life cycle. To be able to follow a detailed proposal process from opportunity to submission. Contributing to a proposal project timetable. Developed my creative writing and authoring skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very - my employer is very supportive with planned off the job training, a learning mentor and full support of my line manager, both who attend my review meetings. I am able to attend the masterclasses provided by the training provider and I have the opportunities to put these theories into practice.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot. Pearson have a dedicated team responsible for the apprenticeship programme and I have a programme manager, support from my line manager and a learning mentor. I am always able to complete my 20% off the job training with additional time if required. I am also studying towards my Functional Skills Level 2 and have additional time for this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have a monthly masterclass by an industry led tutor and any assignments are quickly uploaded into an e portfolio system for completion before the following masterclass. I have a nominated skills coach with monthly 121's and quarterly reviews with my line manager and mentor. I also have a dedicated Functional Skills tutor with planned classroom sessions (virtual) and web based skills building software.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The apprenticeship standard I have identified will support my development whilst fitting in with my current job role. Short-term this will enable me to support the bids and partnership manager with any bids and tenders, longer term, I will develop the knowledge and skills to be able to apply these in a full time bid and proposal role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Due to the pandemic all activities have been remote. We have had various activities over teams including quiz's and bingo. We have already been discussing idea's for when we can all get together face to face. We also have apprenticeship ambassadors and social events just for apprentices. On a professional level i have attended several virtual events both cross team and external.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
On a day to day basis it's en enjoyable place to work with great support and great people across many functional teams. The company has an excellent diversity and inclusion policy and has been confirmed by Stonewall in the top 100 LGBTQ UK employers, which is really important to me. They also have an excellent well being support network and benefits package.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Pearson understands that one size doesn’t fit all, so their job and apprenticeship opportunities reflect this to meet the different needs of their employee's. Look for the opportunities and be prepared to work hard and you will be able to progress your career whilst enjoying some of the best benefits around.
