Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Most days I am in contact with clients and am involved in client calls. However, the majority of my day revolves around basic audit tests where I can learn meanings and backgrounds behind why KPMG do what they do. Alongside this, I study and am provided with many training opportunities that help to improve my knowledge and skillset.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The main thing I enjoy about the firm is the culture, it exceeded my expectations massively and completely proved wrong any rumours that I had heard prior to joining KPMG. Everyone in the firm is always friendly and willing to help which makes every day work life much more enjoyable!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Whilst starting my apprenticeship I have learnt so many new skills. I have done this by working with others who have been in the firm for years and simply asking questions! However, the firm also put in lots of time dedicated to training to help improve skills on key areas such as excel and the audit platform that is used on a daily basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is loads of programme support! Study leave days for exams are given for revision and there is always someone there that you can reach out to if needed. There is also a separate 'portal' online for professional qualifications where you are able to find the answers to most of your general questions when employed by the firm.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support from the employer is definitely there if needed. Each colleague is given a performance manager that they can chat to whenever needed but there are also many other alternatives such as ethics champions. Guidance is available its just down to you to reach out if you’re wanting help and support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Learning from home has been a challenge. However, BPP have tried their best to put in a plan to help support students. I think that the support is definitely there if needed but when learning goes back to 'in person' the support is likely to be greater due to it being much easier to ask questions etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Some modules have very little relation to my everyday work however it helps to have this knowledge in general to gain a better understanding of how things work. On the flip side, some modules are extremely helpful and the knowledge and skills help me to excel in my role at KPMG.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Extra activities are available at the firm, these can vary from book clubs to social activities. Whilst working remotely it is a bit harder for socials however I’m sure when things go back to normal a lot more social and team building activities will be put back into place as I’ve heard these ae carried out a lot.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
So far, I have really enjoyed my experience at KPMG and believe that it was the best decision I could have made! The firm is a great, fun place to work but also ensures that you are learning all the time to better yourself and your knowledge. I highly recommend!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Be creative! Think outside of the box with the things you say/put forward and be confident in everything that you do and say too. I personally think that the biggest thing is to remember to be yourself, this is because as at KPMG one of the main things is the people!
