Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a Personal Tax Assistant, so I help clients with their tax affairs. This involves helping anyone from an elderly lady with pension income, to a young farmer who is part of a large farming family and needs advice.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I really enjoy it, with the exception of the BPP side of things. I think it is very 'one size fits all' and this is not how it should be. It is also too much to do for a busy student who is studying.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, I have learnt all about tax! I knew absolutely nothing about it before the role. I have also developed confidence and team work skills, as well as communication skills both verbal and written.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is well organised and well structured, it is clear what I have to do and when. I am always made aware of what I need to do with plenty of notice, and my day is well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is fantastic, they support me completely and I could not feel more comfortable.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A fair amount, I have an additional support coach who is great and keeps up communication with me. I also have regular review calls which keep me on the right track.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I personally do not feel it does. I learn everything from my employer RSM, and very little from BPP. I have to display a wide range of skills and behaviours to BPP through reflective statements, but they always want really specific examples which feels clunky.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes although obviously with Covid it has been limited, but yes there are a large amount of events provided to the staff for example Hotel Chocolat tasting which was done over Teams remotely!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
RSM is a really inclusive firm which shows an incredibly progressive understanding and tolerance of human beings. They are always making sure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable being themselves in the workplace, which is so important but often overlooked. I love it here!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
Be yourself, be honest and truthful about who you are and what you are about, they like the real you to shine through! Work hard and be a team player.
