Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I’m working at Aldi as an apprentice completing my level 2 retail management. I’m currently still on my first year which entails completing deliveries, dealing with customers, working with staff and providing excellent customer service. I work along side managers to enhance my management skills to my next year
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the program a fair amount. The websites to complete my training is very easy to to follow and complete especially sending work to my mentor. Due to covid and the current pandemic issue, we have had a couple of difficulties but overall it’s been really good to enjoy

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills. I have been working along side my store manager, assistant managers and deputy managers to gain new skills such as learning how to provide amazing special buys every week for customers and also learning how to run shifts. Also little routines at different times of the day

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It’s very well put together. It’s easy to follow and it’s all in order already to do. The work is easy and hard aswell so it’s a very nice balance after a hard day at work. I get the support I need from my mentor and staff
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of help from my employer, if I ever need anything showing, explaining, and showing again they are always there to help jo matter how busy they are or the shop is. It’s a nice encouragement from management and gives you the confidence you need to progress
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
When we have our interviews over the phone (due to pandemic) we have a very long chat about my work. They will always go through my work with me every single time, even if I don’t understand it straight away. They are very friendly and approachable if I you ever need anything
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I don’t feel like it makes much of a difference. I got very good training before I started my work. It’s very basic the training online and a lot of it is common sense, so most of the online training can be relatable to completing things in store but with proper training in store first, the online stuff is just a recap
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No we don’t have any extra curricular activities. We are pushing for management to sort this out as many staff have been asking, the manager is currently looking for things the staff can get involved in. We all have our own social gatherings with each other outside of work to keep that friendship.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have recently just recommended it to my partner who is at the moment working for Tesco. He has applied to one of the stores and is waiting to hear back. It’s amazing for progression, the training, the management team and just how Aldi run the stores also the pay is also a bonus
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
Tips for people applying to Aldi is very simple to be honest. As long as you are committed, hardworking and put the hours and your best in. There is no way you will fail at Aldi. You have an amazing support system and they will always push you. The main thing is genuinely just being a very driven hard working well rounded person
